Can they really be called Micro-Transactions if they are as much or more than the cost of a subscription?
If it involves spending real currency on an in-game currency which then can be used to buy things, some of which may priced below the point at which a credit card transaction is economically feasible, it is by definition a microtransaction. Even if you are spending some sizable cash on an item.
If you whip out your credit card and buy an mount or companion pet from the Blizzard store, that is just buying stuff.
It is that interim currency that makes it a micro transaction, because theoretically, you could use it to buy a 50 cent item, if any game actually sold something that cheap in their cash store.
