Activision Guitar Hero Layoffs
Posted by Stropp on February 11, 2011I’ve been laid off a few times in the past when the company I’ve been working for has had a poor sales season. In every case, the impression I have received from management is that they have explored other options and the layoffs are a last resort.
I have never worked for the game industry though.
The news this week is that Activision is cancelling the Guitar Hero series of games due to falling sales. Fair enough, Activision is a business responsible to its shareholders and needs to make hard commercial decisions on unprofitable products.
But I’ve never seen a company so uncaring, dare I say, gleeful, about sacking 500 of its employees.
Nasty.
