RSS Feeds – Full or Partial – What Do You Prefer?

Posted by Stropp on August 11, 2007 I'm considering doing an experiment with my RSS feeds. I currently provide a full RSS feed to Stropp's World which will allow anyone to view all of the articles that I publish in a feed reader. My question to you dear reader, especially those of you who use a feedreader like Bloglines or Google Reader to access the content on this blog, is: Would it make you terribly unhappy if I changed my RSS feed to a partial feed? If you will be terribly vexed by a partial feed, make sure you drop by and make a comment. Otherwise, I won't know. BTW, at the beginning of this month, I mentioned that one of the goals I had for August was to get to 200 RSS feed readers. If you are visiting and would like to get a convenient notification of when I put up a new post, please subscribe to my blog. You can use this link to do so, or click on the chicklet in the first column of the sidebar. Thanks.
  1. Delaney Said,

I love a full feed, but I wouldn’t revolt if you went to partial.

I use Bloglines (love it!). First, I evaluate my interest level for a post in general. If I want to read the whole thing, I either do it via the reader or click through to the site. I find more often then not, partials don’t pass the “interest level” test as well as “full” posts do. Although I have to say your posts get interesting pretty quickly… where as mine tend to need a few paragraphs to gain traction.

  2. Stropp Said,

    Thanks for the complement Delaney.

The more I read on the topic, the more I think I won’t go to a partial feed. I’ve seen a few articles on how most RSS readers actively don’t like partial feeds.
