New Oceanic Realms in the Works

Posted by Stropp on January 12, 2007 It looks Oceanic players might be getting a new realm. Perhaps as soon as the Burning Crusade expansion release day. In response to a query from a player on the official World of Warcraft forums, Drysc made the following statement:

We won't be announcing further details on the launch day realms until later, but we are planning to include an Oceanic realm. Please keep in mind that with our launch day realms our priority is to ensure that new or returning players have sufficient space to create their characters. For this reason the most popular realm types are likely to be used. We're well aware of player requests for specific realm types and we'll be doing our best to meet those requests at a later time.

I wonder if this will be a part of the whole realm splitting initiative that Blizzard has been planning. Apparently the beta test of a realm split went off without any problems reported so far. With the influx of players, both new and old, expected when TBC is released, it's a good possibility that some of the more overcrowded Oceanic realms will be split when they become unmanageable.
