An Interesting Time
Posted by Stropp on December 4, 2006It’s certainly been an interesting few weeks. You may have noticed that I haven’t posted much over the last little while. Well, I haven’t really played a lot of WoW over that time either. I think a part of it is that I am feeling tired and burnt out. After writing Gaming Burnout or End of Year Blues, I realised I was feeling it more than I had previously thought.
I’ve also been incredibly busy. I work as a Software Engineer, and for some reason my sector of the industry seems to delight in having major milestones either immediately before, or immediately after the Christmas break. Hmmm.
The other thing is that a friend and I have been working in our spare time on a concept for a web application. This has been going slowly over the last six months as we’ve done a lot of talking, and a lot of World of Warcraft as well.
However, we’ve made a couple of break throughs in the last two weeks, and have are about to really get down to the coding. Btw, for all you technical minded folks out there, Ruby on Rails is a very cool development platform. It looks like it is going to make my life a lot easier on this development.
So, the upshot is that I haven’t done a lot of WoWing, and I haven’t done a lot of posting here. I hope to remedy that. I did start this blog as a bit of an experiment, to see what was required, and to figure out some of the aspects of running a web site with all the search engine optimisation hoodoo and the like. If anything, the major thing I’ve learned is that there is more to learn.
But, the other thing I’ve learned is that blogging is fun. I’ve enjoyed putting my thoughts down on virtual paper, which is something I wasn’t entirely certain I’d like doing before I started. And I’ve enjoyed fiddling with all the bits and pieces. I’ve earned some money too. Not much, I admit, nearly three dollars from google adsense, but it’s a start.
So now the thing is to continue. To knuckle down and write. Therein lies the challenge. To write when I do feel burned out, and just want to sleep, or zombify in front of the tele. To write when I’m looking at the things I still have to do on project X. I hope you enjoy reading.
