Burning Crusade is more Knowledgable

Posted by Stropp on October 27, 2006

Blizzard has announced that The Burning Crusade expansion is going to provide an in-game knowledge base. This is being touted as an easy to use information resource will contain extensive details pertaining to all areas of World of Warcraft. It appears to have been recently released in the beta, and is accessible by clicking the red question mark icon at the bottom of the screen.

I wonder how this will affect sites like Thottbot and Allakhazam that provide this service already?

Somehow, unless they are going to give quest help and provide the level of service that these sites already provide, I don’t think there will be too much of an effect there. But it does seem a little odd that Blizzard is looking at providing the sort of service traditionally provided by community web sites. Is this the beginnings of an move to cut the little guys out of the game information service?

I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.

  1. Simon Said,

Thottbot and Allakhazam seem to be associated with gold selling – certainly there are adverts for that on them, so perhaps that’s why Blizzard want to put some pressure on them?

  2. Stropp Said,

That’s something that I hadn’t thought of Simon. It does seem that Blizzard have hit the gold sellers pretty hard recently. But implementing a knowledgebase in game does seem to be a lot of work to do something that they are already having success with.
